Savayava Parampareya Kathana
Path tread by innovative organic farmers

Home

Farm sector in India is at its crossroads. As the farm community realised the harmful consequences of the much hyped ‘green revolution’, importance and relevance of traditionally practiced farming methods have once again come to the forefront. Along with organic farming, long-established customs for soil and water conservation and thus crop protection have become the immediate necessity, to bring our agriculture out of the grips of chemical farming and hybrid varieties.

Considering the need to document and popularise efforts in organic farming Institute for Cultural Research and Action, ICRA has published a book titled ‘ Savayava Parampareya Kathana’. The book compiled by V. Gayathri (Managing Editor of Sahaja Saguvali, a magazine dedicated to natural farming) has documented the experiences and innovations of seven organic farmers across Karnataka. These pioneering farmers include K.M. Kumbal, S.M. Patil, K. Kempanna, Somanathareddy Poorma, G.B. Jhadav, Vijayakumar and Neelakantha Murthy. They have shared their understanding of farmlife in detail through the book.

V. Gayathri has taken pains to pass on the experiences and experiments of these farmers who have adopted organic thinking in their life-style also. The articles/interviews are exhaustive and clear for others to understand and follow. This is the first book in a series to document the path tread by novel organic farmers, which ICRA intends to publish.
