Farm Journalism awards announced |
Centre for Agricultural Media (CAM) has announced state level farm journalism awards in Kannada for the year 2008. Irayya Killedar and KishanRao Kulakarni have been selected for these annual awards given in two categories. In the practicing farmer category Irayya Killedar’s ‘Innondu Hasiru Kranti Bekeke?’ published in Kannada Prabha (November 26, 2007), a leading Kannada daily is selected for the award. The write-up questions the need for another Green Revolution and gives an overview of farming sector with focus on Karnataka.
In the general category KishanRao Kulakarni got acclaim for his feature ‘Savayava Krushi, Mannigoo Khushi’ published in weekly magazine Taranga (July 10, 2008). The article describes various methods of non-chemical farming by in the light of certain case-studies. It also mentions the advantages of non-chemical farming over chemical farming.
CAM has instituted the awards to strengthen farmer-friendly journalism in Kannada. The awards carry a cash prize of Rs.2000 for each category besides a citation and a parisara shilpa. The awards will be presented on the occasion of CAM’s eighth anniversary at Viveka Girijana Shaikshanika Kendra at Hosahalli in Mysore district on October 19, 2008. |
