Bharamagoudra

The Centre for Alternative Agricultural Media (CAAM) has announced its state level annual awards for the best farm writings in Kannada. Mr. D.D. Bharamagoudra of Gadag and Mr. Na. Karantha Peraje along with Dr. N.V. Karunakara both from Puttur (Dakshina Kannada district) have been selected in the farmer and general section respectively. The awards carry a cash prize of Rs.2000 each besides a citation and a parisara shilpa.

CAAM has been presenting these awards since last two years to encourage farmer friendly journalism in Kannada. In the farmer category, Mr. Bharamagoudra's article based on his experience in organic farming, titled, 'Saavayava Krishikana Krishi Anubhavagalu' published in Sahaja Saguvali has been selected for the award.

N.V. Karunakara

In the general category Mr. Na. Karantha Peraje and Dr. N.V. Karunakara have shared the award. Mr. Na. Karantha's article on the success story of a person who has developed a low-cost method to generate hydro electricity titled, 'Harineera Talaku Manemane Belaku' and Dr. Karunakara's article stating that only farming can lead to a satisfied lifestyle titled, 'Krishiyindale Nemmadiya Baduku Saadhya' have been selected for the award. Both articles were published in Adike Patrike.
Water conservation: A model for the state

The Centre has announced a special award to Vidyabodhini High School, Balila of Sullia Taluk. Students and teachers of this school have successfully adopted soil and water conservation methods in the school campus and have set a model for other institutions. The award which carries a cash prize of Rs.5000 along with a citation is given in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the field.

The awards will be presented on the occasion of CAAM's third anniversary at 'Sriranga', Kukkujadka, Sullia, Dakshina Kannada, Karnataka on November 30, 2003.
