The Centre for Alternative Agricultural Media (CAAM) organised a novel programme - 'Harogerige Hogona Banni' on July 17, 2003 with an objective to establish an organic link between sustainable development and media.

One of the objectives of CAAM is to facilitate the media to focus on the positive efforts carried out in the rural areas. With this in mind, CAAM has introduced a programme called, 'Media for Sustainable Development'. The first event in this direction is Harogerige Hogona Banni (Come, let us visit Harogeri). This programme will unfold the different stages of sustainable development in Harogeri to the media. The event has been organised for the journalists of Hubli and Dharwad, Karnataka State.

BAIF Institute for Rural Development in Dharwad has been working effectively in 22 villages including Harogeri, in Dharwad district since six years. Through its participatory activities BAIF has reached the poorest of the poor. Results of its activities are evident in these villages. People, with the assistance of BAIF have enhanced the natural resources in their villages besides adopting many other developmental practices, thus improved their lives. This is a clear example for the fact that sincere and community-based efforts of an NGO can contribute significantly to the development of a village.

CAAM feels that if media disseminate the success story of villages like Harogeri, that will inspire other villages to move towards self-reliance.
