Farmer journalist, CAAM team member and founder of recently launched water forum 'Jalakoota', Mr. Shree Padre has come out with his 6th book on rainwater harvesting (RWH). The book titled Rain Water Harvesting has been released at a time when people are struggling hard for water. This neat and descriptive book in English has the preface by Magsaysay award winner Dr. Rajendra Singh who turned the fate of villages in Rajasthan. "You have tried to bring in the essence of rain harvesting and have focused its necessity quite effectively. I hope that your book will help in wiping out the mental blocks our society might have in this issue," the preface reads. "I am sure that whoever reads this book will realise how important and emergent it is to take up conservation of water," Dr. Singh says. Out of the eight chapters, the first one describes the causes for the decline of Water Table. Chapter two to seven deal with different aspects of rainwater harvesting. The last chapter gives examples of those who have successfully implemented RWH techniques in their livelihood. This chapter that covers the second half of the book, looks into the practical possibilities of this technique through various case studies that are distinct. If the first half of the book lays the foundation for a better understanding of RWH, the second half guides you into its possibilities. Mr. Shree Padre is working persistently in the field of soil and water conservation since several years in Karnataka and Kerala. He has been conducting awareness programmes on the theme, a unique effort in the region. Since last six years Mr. Padre is vigorously collecting and documenting information on rainwater harvesting from world over. He also contributes articles to several lead newspapers in Karnataka on the theme. Mr. Padre has even authored five books on RWH in Kannada.
